Freedom is a mirage. You think you are free and that our democratic societies warrant your freedom of choice. You think you are an independent individual and decide for yourself what to do with your life. But stop for a minute and think about our way of living.
Slavery was abolished long time ago, but we are still slaves - financial slaves hold prisoners by consumer society. The “land lords” do not need to physically restrain you anymore. Using force to make you work is dangerous and can provoke revolts. Why not give us dumb sheeps a sense of so-called “freedom” and use another kind of fear rather than fear of physical penalty in order to manipulate us into doing something? This was probably one of the key factors that led to industrialization.
We were turned into consumers. We were conviced that working for a big company and bringing home a regular check every month is easier and safer than being a small entrepreneur or a farmer fighting for survival and living without knowing what the next month will bring you. People became lazy, dumb workers that prefer spending 40 hours doing some senseless monkey-job instead of using their brain to get out of this rat-race.
Sure, a constant number on your check made the life predictable and comfortable. You know how much you can spend for all the useless stuff that is made you believe you need by thousands of seen and seamless ads you see everyday and by the present social currents composed of the same dumb sheeps as you are. “If you don’t have that gadget, you don’t belong into the group” - what a bullsh*t, sorry for the expression.
And if you do not have enough money, a bank can lend you some since your financial situation is so predictable. You take up retail credits, credit cards, loans and mortgages and end up working a bank and all those gadget you have bought.
But think about the price you are paying to get rid of the fear of failure, fear of independence and the unknown. It’s warm and “easy” inside the capitalistic box. The problem is that you don’t get rid of fear, you just replace it by other fears: fear of being fired and not being able to afford the consumer lifestyle you have led since childhood; fear that all your posessions will be lost to banks if you do not pay for the credits you agreed upon; fear to be the outsider in your society.
Congratulations, you have just replaced one fear with another and lost your freedom of choice and independence in the process. A fair trade? I don’t think so.
The sad story is that 95% of the population is a hostage of this same situation one way or another…
